The KENNAMETAL 2598808 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for improved wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert is left-hand oriented with a neutral rake geometry, a 0.125-inch (3.18 mm) cutting width, and a maximum depth of cut of 0.150 inch (3.81 mm). Material grade C3/C4 carbide makes it suitable for machining steel, stainless, and cast iron at moderate to high cutting speeds. Machinists and toolroom technicians specify this insert for high-precision groove profiles where dimensional repeatability is critical.
This insert is intended for grooving and profiling applications on turning equipment in both production-floor and job-shop environments. The NG-style insert seats in compatible Top Notch toolholders for external grooving. With a 55-degree included angle and a 0.0075-inch (0.19 mm) corner radius, it produces tight-tolerance groove profiles in ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. It is not designed for multi-use or dual-ended operation. Typical applications include groove-and-part operations, thread relief, and undercut work on medium-duty CNC lathes.
Designed for use in KENNAMETAL Top Notch series toolholders that accept the NG3125 insert style. Verify toolholder designation against KENNAMETAL Top Notch compatibility charts before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered off and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping procedure - do not overtighten the clamp screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert. Confirm insert orientation (left-hand) matches the toolholder configuration before beginning the cut.
