The KENNAMETAL 2598804 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a TiAlN PVD coating for improved wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting temperatures. The insert is right-hand oriented and sized to a 2.46 mm cutting width with a maximum depth of cut of 3.81 mm. It belongs to the Top Notch series with an NG insert style and a manufacturer grade of KC5010. Corner radius is 0.32 mm, rake is neutral, and the included angle is 55 degrees. This insert is installed and replaced by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians working in production turning environments.
This insert is suited for grooving operations in both production and job-shop environments on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials consistent with C3 and C4 material grades. The Top Notch series design supports secure seating in compatible NG-style toolholders. Typical applications include external groove profiles, undercuts, and snap-ring grooves on turned components where a 2.46 mm groove width and controlled depth are required. The TiAlN coating makes this insert a practical choice for dry or semi-dry cutting conditions where heat buildup is a factor.
Designed for use with NG-style Top Notch series toolholders that accept size 3097 inserts. Refer to KENNAMETAL Top Notch toolholder selection guides to confirm holder compatibility before ordering.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine powered down and spindle locked. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to achieve correct clamping force - do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the toolholder pocket for burrs or debris before seating the new insert. Confirm insert orientation matches the right-hand designation of the holder setup before resuming cutting operations.
