The KENNAMETAL 2509408 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ISO designation EDPT180532PDSRGD and manufactured to grade KC725M. It features a parallelogram shape with a 70-degree included angle and a right-hand cutting orientation. The insert is finished with a three-layer PVD coating — TiN, TiCN, TiN — applied in sequence to improve wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted or continuous milling. At 0.217 inches thick and 0.426 inches wide, it is sized for the EDPT 18 insert series. A 0.125-inch corner radius and GD chip breaker geometry help manage chip flow and reduce cutting forces across a range of feed rates.
This insert is designed for milling applications in steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces — material codes P, M, and S. It is suited for face milling, shoulder milling, and similar operations on machining centers and milling machines where a screw-held EDPT-style insert seat is used. The KC725M grade targets moderate to high cutting speeds in production environments where tool life consistency matters. Right-hand cutting geometry is standard for conventional spindle rotation setups. It is typically selected by tooling specialists, CNC machinists, and manufacturing engineers working with difficult-to-machine alloys.
Designed for use in EDPT 18 series milling toolholders that accept screw-held parallelogram inserts with the EDPT180532 seat specification. Compatible workpiece materials include steel (P), stainless steel (M), superalloys, and titanium (S) per ISO material classification.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians following standard insert indexing procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification — do not over-tighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure full, flat contact.
