The KENNAMETAL 2499891 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the KSEM series, designed for high-productivity drilling in steel and cast iron. It carries a KC7315 fine grain solid carbide tip with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating and an HPG insert geometry. The drill features a 140-degree point angle, two helical flutes, and through-coolant capability including support for minimum quantity lubrication (MQL). The cutting diameter measures 1.5142 inches (38.00mm) with a flute length of 19.00mm and an overall projection of 1.0230 inches. It is installed and serviced by machinists and tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This replaceable tip drill is suited for general drilling operations on steel and cast iron workpieces in both production machining and maintenance environments. The KSEM platform is built for use in CNC machining centers and milling machines where controlled tool runout and consistent hole quality are required. Documented application support includes inclined exit drilling, stacked plate drilling, and standard through-hole drilling with or without through-coolant. The clamp-style insert holding method ensures secure tip retention under aggressive feed conditions.
Designed as an OEM-style replaceable tip for use in KSEM-series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 10. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO material code P) and cast iron (ISO material code K).
Replaceable tip drills in the KSEM series are installed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is secured before seating or removing the tip insert. Verify insert seat cleanliness and clamp torque per the toolholder manufacturer specification before operation. Confirm through-coolant line pressure and flow rate are appropriate for the application before initiating a cut.
