The KENNAMETAL 2499867 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the KSEM series, designed for precision hole-making in steel and cast iron. The solid carbide tip carries the KC7315 manufacturer grade with a fine-grain carbide substrate and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for heat resistance and extended tool life. The HPG insert geometry and 140-degree drill point angle promote self-centering and clean entry. Coolant-through design supports both flood and MQL (minimum quantity lubricant) delivery, making it well suited for production drilling environments where chip evacuation and thermal control are critical.
This drill is intended for metalworking applications in ferrous materials, primarily steel (ISO material code P) and cast iron (ISO material code K). It handles flat-surface entry drilling as well as more demanding scenarios including inclined exit surfaces and stacked plate drilling. The two-flute, two-margin helical flute configuration supports stable cutting action at the 1.0 inch (25.40 mm) cutting diameter. Machinists and tool-room technicians working on CNC machining centers will find this part appropriate for moderate-to-high feed-rate drilling cycles where a replaceable tip reduces overall tooling cost versus solid drills.
Designed as an OEM-style replaceable tip for KSEM series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 5. Confirmed primary workpiece materials are steel and cast iron (ISO P and K material groups).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician following the machine tool manufacturer guidelines for replaceable tip drills. Ensure the spindle and tool holder are fully powered down and locked out before seating or removing the carbide tip. Use the correct clamp torque tool as specified in the KSEM series tooling manual - do not substitute fasteners or apply freehand torque estimates. Verify coolant-through passages are clear and delivering adequate flow before running production cuts.
