The KENNAMETAL 2499865 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the KSEM series, designed for precision hole-making in metalworking applications. The cutting tip is manufactured from solid carbide with a fine grain structure and carries a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which improves wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The drill produces a 23.81 mm (0.9374 inch, or 15/16 inch) diameter hole with a 140-degree drill point angle and features two helical flutes with two margins. Through-coolant capability, including MQL (minimum quantity lubricant) support, allows heat management during deep or demanding cuts. This insert is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians in CNC machining centers and drill presses.
This replaceable tip drill insert is intended for drilling applications in steel and cast iron workpiece materials, corresponding to ISO material groups P and K. Its HPG insert geometry and KSEM seat size 4 interface make it suited for inclined entry and exit drilling, stacked plate drilling, and standard through-coolant drilling cycles. The clamp-style insert holding method provides rigid seating during high-feed operations typical in production machining environments.
Designed for use with KSEM series replaceable tip drill bodies accepting seat size 4 inserts. Compatible primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K). Insert ISO number is KSEM0938HPG in grade KC7315.
Installation and replacement of this tip should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque and seating procedures for the KSEM system. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before removing or installing the insert. Verify the insert seat is clean and free of chips before seating the new tip to prevent improper seating and premature tool failure. Confirm coolant delivery is active and properly directed before commencing drilling cycles when operating in through-coolant mode.
