The KENNAMETAL 2499860 is a carbide replaceable tip drill insert belonging to the KSEM series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in metalworking applications. Manufactured from fine-grain solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, it delivers heat resistance and extended tool life in demanding ferrous machining environments. The insert features an HPG geometry with a 140-degree drill point angle and a 27/32-inch (21.43 mm) cutting diameter. It seats into compatible KSEM holder bodies and is secured by clamp, making tip changes fast and repeatable without full tool replacement. Licensed HVAC technicians, machinists, and toolroom professionals install and replace these inserts during production or maintenance drilling operations.
This replaceable tip drill insert is engineered for drilling steel and cast iron workpieces, covering ISO material groups P and K. It supports through-coolant delivery, including minimum quantity lubrication (MQL), making it suitable for high-speed production environments where heat management is critical. Typical applications include straight-hole drilling, inclined entry and exit drilling, and stacked-plate drilling. The 2-flute, 2-margin helical flute design promotes chip evacuation and hole quality. It is suited for both job shop and high-volume CNC machining setups where consistent bore diameter and surface finish are required.
Designed for use with KSEM series replaceable tip drill holder bodies accepting an insert seat size 3. The ISO number for this insert is KSEM0844HPG. Compatible primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K).
Installation and replacement of carbide replaceable tip inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before removing or seating the insert. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping hardware to secure the insert in the KSEM holder seat - refer to the holder documentation for clamping procedure. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new tip to ensure accurate seating and diameter repeatability.
