The KENNAMETAL 2499848 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill from the KSEM series, designed for high-productivity drilling in steel and cast iron applications. It carries the KC7315 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating and an HPG insert geometry. The 140-degree drill point angle supports clean entry and exit in demanding workpiece materials. With a cutting diameter of 16.67mm (0.6563 inches) and a helical flute design, this drill delivers consistent chip evacuation and hole quality. It is typically installed by machining professionals in CNC turning and milling centers where replaceable-tip tooling reduces downtime versus brazed or solid-shank drills.
This drill is suited for production machining environments handling steel and cast iron components, including inclined-exit surfaces and stacked-plate configurations. The through-coolant capability supports both flood coolant and MQL (minimum quantity lubricant) delivery directly to the cutting zone, making it appropriate for high-speed, high-volume drilling cycles in both job shop and production floor settings. The KSEM platform uses a clamp-style insert holding method for secure tip retention during aggressive feed rates.
Designed for use in the KSEM series drill body platform with insert seat size 1. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO material code P) and cast iron (ISO material code K). Suitable for inclined-exit drilling, stacked-plate drilling, and through-coolant drilling operations per KSEM series application guidelines.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before seating or removing the replaceable tip. Use the appropriate KSEM torque key or clamp tool per the toolholder manufacturer guidelines - do not use impact tools on the clamping screw. Verify coolant-through passages are clear before running the first cycle, particularly when switching between flood and MQL delivery modes.
