The KENNAMETAL 2499844 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert from the KSEM series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in steel and cast iron applications. The insert carries Kennametal grade KC7315 with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating and an HPG geometry, delivering wear resistance and edge stability in demanding cutting conditions. It features a 140-degree drill point angle, two helical flutes with two margins, and through-coolant capability including MQL (Minimum Quantity Lubrication) compatibility. Cutting diameter is 15.48mm (39/64 inch). This insert is specified and installed by machining professionals and toolroom technicians working with CNC drilling centers and machining centers.
The 2499844 tip insert seats into KSEM-series replaceable-tip drill bodies using an A-series insert seat. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO material group P) and cast iron (ISO material group K). The HPG geometry and TiAlN finish make it well suited for through-hole and blind-hole drilling, inclined entry and exit surfaces, and stacked plate configurations where consistent hole quality is required across varying stack thicknesses. The helical regular-spiral flute form aids chip evacuation in these demanding setups.
Designed for use with KSEM-series replaceable-tip drill bodies accepting an A-series insert seat. Compatible with primary workpiece materials classified as steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K). ISO number reference: KSEM0609HPG.
Installation and indexing of replaceable carbide tip inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the spindle fully stopped and machine power locked out. Use the correct Kennametal clamping key or wrench specified for the KSEM body to seat the insert fully and evenly - do not overtighten by improvised means. Verify coolant port alignment before resuming cutting. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris between each tip change to maintain runout accuracy.
