The KENNAMETAL 2499828 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the KSEM series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in steel and cast iron. The drill accepts an KSEM3650HPGM solid carbide tip with a 36.5 mm (1.437 inches) cutting diameter and a 140-degree drill point angle. The tip carries a TiAlN PVD coating applied by physical vapor deposition for heat and wear resistance. Two helical flutes and two margins provide stable cutting geometry. Integrated through-coolant passages support both flood coolant and minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) delivery. This tool is installed and qualified by machinists and tooling specialists in job shop, production, and metalworking environments.
The 2499828 is suited for drilling operations in steel (ISO material code P) and cast iron (ISO material code K). The HPG insert geometry and KC7315 fine-grain carbide grade are optimized for these materials in demanding conditions. Supported applications include standard through-hole drilling, inclined entry and exit, and stacked-plate configurations. The clamp-style insert holding method allows fast tip exchange without removing the drill body from the spindle, reducing changeover time in production settings.
The KSEM3650HPGM tip is a direct fit for KSEM-series drill bodies with insert seat size 10. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K). Compatible applications include standard drilling, inclined-exit drilling, and stacked-plate drilling as specified in the supplier data.
Tip installation and torque procedures should follow the KSEM system tooling documentation provided by the manufacturer. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and machine power is locked out before seating or removing the replaceable tip. Verify coolant passages are clear before initiating through-coolant operation. This tooling is intended for use by qualified machinists operating CNC or manual metalworking machinery in accordance with applicable shop safety standards.
