The KENNAMETAL 2499609 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert in the KSEM series, designed to fit KSEM-style modular drill bodies used in metal-cutting operations. This insert carries the KC7315 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating and an HPG insert geometry. The 140-degree drill point angle and helical flute design promote efficient chip evacuation during drilling. At 13.10mm (0.5157 inches) cutting diameter, it is held in place by a clamp-style insert seat size C and supports through-coolant delivery, including MQL (Minimum Quantity Lubrication) setups. Machinists and CNC operators working in production environments install this insert as a consumable tip replacement without pulling the full drill body from the spindle.
This insert is engineered for drilling applications in steel and cast iron workpieces, identified under ISO material codes P and K respectively. It is well-suited for standard through-hole drilling as well as demanding conditions including inclined exit surfaces and stacked plate configurations. The 2-flute, 2-margin geometry with through-coolant capability makes it a practical choice for shops running high-volume drilling cycles where tool change speed and consistent hole quality are priorities. The insert measures 7.00mm in flute length and 7.00mm in height, with an overall functional projection of 0.2580 inches.
Designed for use with KSEM series modular drill bodies accepting a size C insert seat. Compatible with inclined exit, stacked plate, and standard through-coolant drilling setups. ISO number KSEM0516HPG confirms fitment within the KSEM platform.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and locked out before replacing the insert. Use the appropriate Torx or clamp-fastener driver specified for the KSEM tool body to seat and secure the insert — do not overtighten or substitute fasteners. Verify coolant port alignment when through-coolant or MQL delivery is in use before resuming operation.
