The KENNAMETAL 2458790 is a solid carbide milling insert identified by ISO code OFKT06L5AFENGB and manufactured in grade KC522M. It features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating optimized for cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys including titanium. The octagon insert shape delivers 8 usable cutting edges from a single-sided geometry, extending tool life between changeovers. With a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, a honed cutting edge style, and a GB chip breaker, the insert promotes controlled chip formation and reduced cutting forces across a range of milling operations. It is held in the cutter body by a screw-type clamping method and is compatible with the KSOM cutter series.
This insert is suited for face milling and shoulder milling applications in both production and job-shop environments. Primary workpiece materials are steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and superalloys and titanium (S). The maximum depth of cut reaches 0.2360 inches. It fits KENNAMETAL KSOM series cutter bodies. Typical users include CNC machinists and manufacturing facilities running general-purpose milling on ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. The neutral hand orientation allows use in a range of toolholder configurations.

Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key specified by the cutter body documentation to secure the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excess clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket and screw threads for damage or debris before fitting a new insert.
