The KENNAMETAL 2449476 is a carbide replaceable tip drill from the KSEM series, designed for high-productivity drilling in steel and cast iron applications. The tip is manufactured from solid carbide fine-grain material with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, delivering hardness and thermal resistance across demanding cutting conditions. The drill features a 40mm (1.5748 inch) cutting diameter, a 140-degree drill point angle, and an HPG insert geometry. Two helical flutes with through-coolant capability — including MQL (Minimum Quantity Lubricant) compatibility — support chip evacuation and tool life in production drilling environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users of this tool.
This replaceable tip drill is suited for drilling operations in steel and cast iron workpieces, covering primary material grades P and K per ISO classification. The KSEM series design supports inclined exit drilling, stacked plate drilling, and standard through-hole applications. The clamp-style insert holding method secures the tip reliably during high-feed passes. A flute length of 20mm and overall projection of 0.7870 inches make this tool appropriate for moderate-depth hole applications in a machining center or CNC turning setup requiring consistent, repeatable bore quality.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement tip for KSEM series replaceable tip drill bodies accepting insert seat size 10. Verify body compatibility with the KSEM series tool holder rated for 40mm tip diameter before installation.
Installation of replaceable tip drills should be performed by qualified machinists following the tool manufacturer's clamping torque procedure for the KSEM clamp system. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before seating or removing the tip. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before securing the tip, as contamination can affect runout and tool life. Follow your facility's cutting fluid or MQL system setup guidelines to maintain proper coolant delivery through the tool body.
