The KENNAMETAL 2425820 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WPMT style, carrying the industry standard designation WPMT15121LF and the manufacturer grade KC5025. The insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering moderate wear-resistance and toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. The 80-degree trigon shape, positive rake angle of 5 degrees, and honed cutting edge style make this insert well suited for finishing and light machining operations. The screw-on holding method secures the insert in the toolholder for consistent, repeatable positioning. This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations on stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, steel, cast iron, and aluminum and non-ferrous materials. The LF chip breaker geometry targets finishing and light machining passes where surface finish and edge control are critical. The 3/16-inch inscribed circle and 1.25 mm maximum depth of cut make it appropriate for fine passes on close-tolerance components in both job shop and production machining environments. Licensed machinists and CNC technicians in metalworking trades are the primary installers and users of this consumable cutting tool.
Designed for use in WPMT-style screw-on toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. Compatible with primary workpiece materials coded P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), N (aluminum and non-ferrous), and S (superalloys and titanium). Conforms to ANSI insert code WPMT15121 and ISO insert code WPMTS3T104.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturers specified torque using the appropriate Torx or hex key. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before mounting a new insert.
