The KENNAMETAL 2425819 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation VBMT3305LF and ISO designation VBMT160402, manufactured to the KC5025 grade. It features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating over a carbide substrate, delivering moderate wear resistance and toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert carries a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation and a positive rake and side clearance geometry. With a 0.0079-inch corner radius and an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches, this insert is engineered for finishing and light machining operations on turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications. It is installed via screw-on holding method and meets both ANSI and ISO standards.
This insert is suited for use on CNC lathes and turning centers in job shop, production, and contract machining environments. The KC5025 grade targets steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous materials (N), and superalloys and titanium (S), making it a versatile option when a single insert grade must handle multiple workpiece materials across a shift. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts and light material removal, where surface finish and dimensional control are priorities.
Designed for use in VBMT-style screw-on toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle seat. Compatible toolholder bore diameter is 0.1732 inches. Suitable for workpiece materials designated P, M, K, N, and S under ISO material classification, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and superalloys and titanium.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the screw-on clamp screw; do not exceed the toolholder manufacturer's recommended clamping torque. Inspect the toolholder pocket and locating surfaces for chips or damage before seating the insert. Confirm insert index and edge condition visually before resuming cutting operations.
