The KENNAMETAL 2408548 is a left-hand indexable boring bar engineered for precision internal turning operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. Built on a steel shank measuring 1-1/2 inches in diameter and 14 inches in overall length, this bar maintains a minimum bore diameter of 50.8 mm (2.0000 inches). It accepts DN.. style inserts secured by a clamp-style insert holding method and features a -17.5 degree lead angle with an 8.5 degree negative rake. Through-coolant delivery is supported via a 1/4-18 NPT coolant hole, making it suited for deep-bore applications where heat and chip evacuation are critical concerns. The Series is Kenclamp.
This boring bar is intended for machinists and tool-room technicians working in production or job-shop environments. It is designed for left-hand boring applications where the tool feeds in the opposite direction of a standard right-hand holder. Common use cases include finish boring of housings, bearing bores, and hydraulic cylinder bores in both ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Through-coolant capability makes it particularly effective in deep-bore or high-speed cutting conditions where conventional flood coolant cannot adequately reach the cutting zone.
Designed for use with DN.. style inserts featuring a 1/2 inch inscribed circle and 3/16 inch thickness, as specified for the A-DDQN-KC toolholder style. Insert holding is via clamp method. No additional model or system compatibility data was provided in the product input.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists with the machine spindle stopped and all energy sources locked out per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the shank is properly seated and clamped in the turret or boring head to the tool manufacturer's recommended seating depth before initiating a cut. Connect the through-coolant supply line to the 1/4-18 NPT port using compatible fittings and verify coolant flow before engaging the cut. Inspect insert seating and clamp torque at each insert change to prevent insert movement during operation.
