The KENNAMETAL 2408512 is a left-hand indexable boring bar from the Kenclamp series, designed for internal turning and boring operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. It accepts CN.. style inserts held by a clamp mechanism with a negative rake angle of 5 degrees, providing stable cutting performance in demanding metal removal applications. The bar features a 2-inch shank diameter, a 16-inch overall length, and a -5 degree lead angle. Through-coolant capability via a 1/4-18 NPT coolant hole thread supports chip evacuation and tool life in deep-bore applications. Installation and setup are performed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians.
This boring bar is suited for operations requiring a minimum bore diameter of 2.4 inches, making it applicable to medium-to-large bore work in production and job-shop environments. The 16-inch overall length accommodates deeper reach requirements typical of shaft bores, housing bores, and similar features in steel and ferrous workpiece materials. The left-hand configuration is selected when spindle rotation and tool approach direction require a non-standard hand orientation. Compatible inserts have a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and 3/16-inch thickness, consistent with standard CN.. insert geometry.
Designed for use with CN.. style indexable inserts with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and 3/16-inch thickness, per the A-DCLN-KC toolholder style specification. Confirm insert geometry and grade selection against workpiece material before use.
This boring bar is installed and set up by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Before mounting or insert changes, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state per your facility lockout/tagout procedures. Verify shank bore and retention method in the turret or toolholder are rated for the 2-inch shank diameter. Connect the through-coolant supply to the 1/4-18 NPT port and confirm coolant pressure and flow are within the machine and toolholder specifications before initiating a cut.
