The KENNAMETAL 2405389 is a solid carbide milling insert in the SDPT series, ISO designation SDPT1204PDSRGB2, coated with a CVD-applied multilayer stack of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 in manufacturer grade KCPK30. The insert is square in shape with a 90-degree included angle and a right-hand cutting orientation. It measures 0.5 inches inscribed circle diameter and 0.1875 inches thick, with a corner radius of 0.0315 inches (0.80 mm) and a through-hole diameter of 0.1732 inches. The GB2 chip breaker geometry is suited for controlled chip evacuation across a wide range of workpiece materials. Screw-type holding secures the insert in compatible milling toolholders.
This insert is designed for milling applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, and S. The KCPK30 grade combined with the CVD multilayer coating targets moderate to demanding cutting conditions where wear resistance and thermal stability are priorities. It is appropriate for face milling, shoulder milling, and similar operations in manufacturing environments where consistent tool life across varied workpiece materials is required. Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians in CNC and manual milling setups.
Designed for use in SDPT-series milling toolholders that accept a square insert with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 0.1875-inch thickness, and 0.1732-inch screw hole diameter. Verify toolholder seat geometry and insert size code 43 compatibility before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to reach the recommended clamp torque for screw-type insert retention. Inspect the toolholder seat for debris or damage before seating the insert. Follow shop safety protocols and machine tool manufacturer guidelines during any tooling changeover.
