The KENNAMETAL 2390300 is a solid carbide milling insert in the SDET series, designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding milling applications. Carrying the ISO designation SDET120412PDERGB2 and manufactured in the KC725M grade, this insert features a multilayer PVD coating of TiN, TiCN, and TiN applied over solid carbide for improved wear resistance and extended tool life. The square insert geometry with a 15-degree relief angle and GB2 chip breaker supports efficient chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces. It is sized at a 3/8-inch inscribed circle with a 3/16-inch thickness and a corner radius of 3/64 inch. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, and S. The KC725M grade and PVD multilayer coating make it well suited for both roughing and finishing passes where thermal stability and edge integrity are critical. The right-hand orientation and screw-clamping holding method are consistent with standard SDET-style toolholders used in vertical and horizontal milling centers. The GB2 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation across a range of depths of cut and feed rates typical in production machining environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use insert for SDET-series milling toolholders accepting a size 43 square insert with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thickness, and screw-clamp retention. Compatible with tooling setups targeting steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials per ISO codes P, M, and S.
Installation of milling inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per applicable safety procedures. Use the correct torx or hex key specified for the clamping screw to seat the insert firmly in the pocket without overtightening, which can crack the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for debris or damage before seating a new insert. Index or replace the insert at the first sign of edge wear to avoid workpiece damage or toolholder pocket deterioration.
