The KENNAMETAL 2390289 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ISO designation SDET1204PDSRGB2, manufactured in the KC520M grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. The insert follows an SDET series square geometry with a 90-degree included angle and a right-hand cutting orientation. It measures 0.1875 inches thick with a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle and a corner radius of 0.0315 inches (approximately 0.80 mm). The GB2 chip breaker geometry is designed to control chip formation during milling operations in cast iron. Screw-style insert holding secures the insert in compatible toolholders. This insert is intended for installation by machinists and tooling technicians on CNC or manual milling equipment.
The SDET1204PDSRGB2 insert in KC520M grade is engineered primarily for milling cast iron workpieces, classified under primary workpiece material code K. It is suited for face milling, shoulder milling, and similar interrupted-cut applications where controlled chip flow and edge integrity in ferrous materials are required. The PVD TiAlN coating provides thermal and oxidation resistance appropriate for dry or semi-dry cast iron milling conditions. This insert is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 5 units.
Designed for use in SDET-series compatible milling toolholders that accept a square insert with a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, 0.1875-inch thickness, and screw-type clamping. Verify toolholder seat specifications against the ISO SDET1204 pocket geometry before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque screwdriver or Torx key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw — do not over-tighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or debris before seating the new insert, as contamination in the pocket will affect insert stability and edge life.
