The KENNAMETAL 2390286 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ISO designation SDET1204PDERGB2 and manufactured to the KCK15 grade. It features a multi-layer CVD coating stack — TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3 — applied over the carbide substrate to extend wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted cutting. The insert is square in shape with a 90-degree included angle, a 0.0315-inch corner radius, and a 15-degree relief angle. At 0.1875 inches thick and 0.5000 inches inscribed circle diameter, it fits standard SDET-style milling bodies. Right-hand cutting orientation. Primarily used in cast iron machining applications by machinists and CNC toolroom technicians.
This insert is designed for face milling, shoulder milling, and high-productivity roughing to finishing passes in cast iron workpieces. The GB2 chip breaker geometry controls chip flow and reduces cutting forces in K-class materials including gray cast iron and ductile iron. The CVD coating classification places it in applications where thermal load management is critical — typically high-feed or multi-pass operations on machining centers and CNC mills. Designed for use in SDET-series milling cutter bodies that accept square inserts with a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, 0.1875-inch thickness, and screw-type insert holding. Verify tool body specifications against insert series SDET and insert size code 43 before installation.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the correct-size torx or hex key to torque the retaining screw according to the tool body manufacturer's specification. Inspect the pocket seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Handle solid carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping cutting edges prior to use.
