The KENNAMETAL 2390253 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ISO designation SDCT1204PDERLD2 and manufacturer grade KC725M. It features a PVD-applied multilayer coating of TiN, TiCN, and TiN, which delivers elevated wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The square insert geometry with a 90-degree included angle and LD2 chip breaker is designed for positive cutting action in milling applications. At 0.188 inches thick with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0315-inch corner radius, this insert is screw-held and right-hand oriented, suitable for use in compatible SDCT-series milling toolholders and cutters.
This insert is intended for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials, covering ISO material groups P, M, and S. It is well-suited for face milling, shoulder milling, and general-purpose milling operations where consistent edge life and chip control across difficult-to-machine alloys are required. Licensed machinists, tooling technicians, and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments are the typical end users. The LD2 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation across a range of feeds and depths of cut appropriate to the material grades C5, C6, and C7.
Designed for use in SDCT-series milling toolholders and cutters accepting size 43 square inserts with a 0.1732-inch hole diameter. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium per ISO material codes P, M, and S and material grades C5, C6, and C7.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and all axes locked before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new insert. Do not force the insert into the pocket; improper seating can cause premature edge failure or toolholder damage.
