The KENNAMETAL 2384505 is a carbide thread mill insert designed for internal UN thread milling operations. Manufactured to the KC635M grade, this insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering enhanced wear resistance and thermal stability during high-speed threading. The STN insert style and 0.2344-inch inscribed circle diameter make it well-suited for precision thread milling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. At 20 teeth per inch, this insert produces consistent UN thread profiles in a single pass or helical interpolation cycle. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in production or job-shop environments are the primary users of this tooling.
This insert is used for internal thread milling applications following the UN thread standard. It is appropriate for use on CNC machining centers equipped with thread mill toolholders compatible with the STN insert style. Typical applications include tapping replacement in difficult-to-reach bores, threading hard materials, and producing threads in through or blind holes where tap breakage risk is a concern. The 20 TPI specification targets common UN thread sizes in that pitch range. This insert is sold individually, but the minimum order quantity is 10 pieces per order.
Designed as an OEM-style thread mill insert for use with thread mill bodies accepting the STN insert style in internal UN threading applications.
This insert is installed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician into a compatible thread mill body. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert securely without overtightening. Follow the thread mill body manufacturer's recommended cutting parameters for the KC635M grade and verify program compensation for insert inscribed circle diameter before running production parts.
