The KENNAMETAL 2383589 is a solid carbide milling insert in the SPCT series, designed for high-performance milling operations across a range of demanding workpiece materials. It carries a KC725M manufacturer grade and features a multilayer PVD coating of TiN, TiCN, and TiN, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert has a square shape with a 90-degree included angle, a neutral hand orientation, and an 11-degree relief angle. With a corner radius of 0.0630 inches and an inscribed circle diameter of 0.3940 inches, it is suited for precision milling work requiring consistent edge geometry. Licensed trades machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the typical installers of this insert.
This insert is engineered for milling applications involving steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material grades P, M, and S. The LD2 chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip evacuation in these material groups. It is appropriate for use in both roughing and finishing passes where edge integrity and coating durability are critical. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and pocketing operations on CNC machining centers in industrial and job-shop environments. The insert uses a screw-type holding method and is compatible with toolholders designed for the SPCT10T3 insert seat configuration.
Designed for use in SPCT-series milling toolholders accepting an SPCT10T3 insert seat. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces per ISO application codes P, M, and S. ISO code for this insert is SPCT10T316ENLD2.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and machine power isolated per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key driver at the manufacturer-recommended seating torque for SPCT screw-lock inserts and verify the insert seats flush against all pocket surfaces before resuming cuts. Inspect the insert seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before each insert change. Do not attempt to re-grind or modify the cutting edge.
