The KENNAMETAL 2275092 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the R187GMN geometry with a KC5010 grade substrate, this insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering strong wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting temperatures. The insert carries a 4.76 mm cutting width (0.1874 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 3.80 mm (0.1496 inches), with a full corner radius of 0.0940 inches. It is part of Kennametal Series A4 and is suited for machinists and CNC operators running interrupted or continuous grooving passes on steel and cast iron workpieces rated to material grades C3 and C4.
This insert fits standard grooving toolholders accepting an insert seat size 4 and is appropriate for both external grooving and recessing applications on production turning equipment. The GMN chip breaker geometry promotes reliable chip control across the rated depth-of-cut range of 3.00 mm to 4.00 mm (0.1000 to 0.1500 inches). The neutral hand orientation makes it versatile for standard right-hand and plunge-style grooving setups. Suitable for use in job shop and production environments where consistent groove width and surface finish are required on ferrous workpieces.
Designed for use with Series A4 Kennametal grooving toolholders accepting insert seat size 4. The manufacturer catalog reference for this insert is A4R187I04P00GMN.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician with the machine powered down and in an e-stop or lockout-tagout state before any insert change. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert securely without over-torquing the clamping screw. Verify insert seating and edge condition visually before resuming cutting operations. Follow the toolholder manufacturer guidelines for clamping force and insert pocket cleanliness to ensure accurate groove width and depth repeatability.
