The KENNAMETAL 2275091 is a solid carbide grooving insert engineered for precision groove turning, parting, and profiling operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which delivers wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. The insert has a 3.18 mm (0.1252 inch) cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 2.70 mm (0.1063 inch), and a full-radius corner with a 1/16 inch corner radius. Chip breaker geometry is GMN. The insert is neutral hand, making it suitable for both left- and right-hand toolholding setups. It belongs to the Series A4 product family and is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
This insert is used in grooving and parting applications on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials classified under material grades C3 and C4. Typical installations include external grooving on shafts, snap-ring grooves, and undercut profiles in high-volume production turning environments. The KC5010 grade is suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where edge sharpness and coating integrity are critical to achieving tight tolerances and consistent surface finish. The maximum depth of cut range for this insert falls between 2.00 mm and 3.00 mm (0.1000 to 0.1500 inch decimal), providing a defined operating envelope for process planning.
Designed for use with Series A4 grooving toolholders that accept the R125 insert style. Manufacturer catalog number A4R125I03P00GMN can be used to cross-reference compatible toolholder pockets.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with indexable insert toolholders. Shut down the machine spindle and engage the e-stop before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to achieve proper clamp torque. Do not attempt to resharpen or recoat this insert; replace it when cutting-edge wear reaches the limit of acceptable surface finish or dimensional accuracy.
