The KENNAMETAL 2271159 is a solid carbide milling insert in the EDPT series, identified by ISO code EDPT180512PDERGD and manufactured in grade KC725M. It features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous milling operations. The insert measures 0.8570 inches in length, 0.4331 inches in inscribed circle diameter, and 0.2170 inches in thickness. A 0.0470-inch corner radius and honed cutting edge style reduce chipping risk on demanding materials. Right-hand cutting geometry with a positive rake angle and 15-degree relief angle supports efficient chip evacuation. Licensed machinists and CNC milling operators install this insert in compatible toolholders.
This insert is engineered for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to material grade codes P, M, and S. The GD chip breaker geometry manages chip flow across a range of feed rates and depths of cut typical in production milling environments. It is designed for use with Mill 1-18 cutter bodies and fits toolholders accepting the EDPT 1812 insert size. The single-sided, parallelogram-shaped insert is held in place by a screw-clamping method, ensuring repeatable seating and indexing in automated and manual machining setups.
Designed for use with Mill 1-18 cutter body series. Compatible toolholders accept the EDPT 1812 insert size. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. Meets ANSI and ISO standards for insert geometry and seating.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key for the clamping screw and ensure the insert pocket is clean and free of chips before seating the new insert. Do not mix insert grades or geometries within a single cutter body, as uneven cutting loads can damage the toolholder.
