The KENNAMETAL 2271097 is a solid carbide milling insert in the EDPT series, designed for high-performance face and shoulder milling applications. It carries the ISO designation EDPT180524PDERGD and is manufactured in grade KC725M with a TiAlN PVD coating. The insert features a parallelogram shape with a positive rake geometry, a 15-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge. Two cutting edges are available per insert. At 0.217 inches thick and 0.430 inches inscribed circle diameter, it is sized for toolholders in the Mill 1-18 cutter series. The GD chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation in demanding cuts.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium in both roughing and finishing operations. The KC725M grade and TiAlN PVD coating combination provides thermal resistance and wear performance in ISO material groups P, M, and S. The right-hand orientation and screw-clamping method make it compatible with standard EDPT-style toolholders. Typical users include CNC machinists, toolroom operators, and production milling specialists working in aerospace, energy, and general metalworking environments.
Designed for use in Mill 1-18 series cutter bodies that accept EDPT-style inserts. Conforms to ANSI code EP1824E and ISO code EDPT180524PDERGD. Compatible with ANSI and ISO standard toolholder systems accepting EDPT180524 inserts.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, tagged-out state. Seat the insert fully in the pocket before torquing the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified value. Inspect the pocket seating surface for chips or debris before inserting, as contamination can cause insert rocking and premature edge failure. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine tool manufacturer guidelines when changing inserts.
