The KENNAMETAL 2271092 is a solid carbide milling insert in the EDCT series, designed for high-performance milling of non-ferrous metals. It carries a Titanium Diboride (TiB2) coating applied via PVD process, which reduces built-up edge and extends tool life in aluminum and other non-ferrous applications. The insert is parallelogram-shaped with a 70-degree included angle, a positive rake geometry, and a sharp cutting edge style. It measures 0.7399 inches in length, 0.4224 inches in width, and 0.2170 inches thick, with a 0.2500-inch corner radius. Licensed trade machinists and CNC tooling technicians install and index this insert.
This insert is intended for milling operations on non-ferrous metals, including aluminum alloys and similar materials. It is a right-hand insert with the LD chip breaker geometry, suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where sharp edges and positive rake are critical to surface finish and chip evacuation. It is compatible with the Mill 1-18 cutter series and uses a screw-type insert holding method. The ANSI code is EC1864FJ and the ISO code is EDCT180564PDFRLDJ. Sold individually; minimum order quantity is 5 pieces.
Designed for use with the Mill 1-18 cutter series. Insert style is EDCT, insert size code 1864. Compatible cutter bodies must accept a screw-held, right-hand EDCT-series insert. Verify cutter pocket geometry against the ISO code EDCT180564PDFRLDJ and ANSI code EC1864FJ before ordering.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw specified by the cutter body manufacturer — do not over-torque the clamping screw, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert.
