The KENNAMETAL 2271071 is a solid carbide milling insert in the EDPT series, designed for indexable face and shoulder milling operations. It carries ISO designation EDPT180516PDERGD and ANSI code EP1816E. The insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of workpiece materials. The parallelogram insert shape with a positive rake geometry and honed cutting edge reduces cutting forces and helps produce a clean surface finish. With 2 cutting edges per insert and a GD chip breaker, it is suited for productive material removal in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. A licensed machinist or toolroom technician installs and indexes these inserts.
This insert is intended for use in the Kennametal Mill 1-18 cutter series. It fits right-hand tooling configurations and is appropriate for both roughing and semi-finishing passes depending on feed and depth-of-cut selection. Primary workpiece material designations are P, M, K, and S, covering steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys including titanium. The KCPK30 grade is positioned for interrupted and continuous cutting in these material groups. This insert is a single-sided design secured by screw-style insert holding, making indexing straightforward during a tool change on the machine.
Designed for use in the Kennametal Mill 1-18 cutter series. Insert size code 1816 with ISO designation EDPT180516PDERGD and ANSI code EP1816E. Screw-mounted, single-sided, right-hand insert.
Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key driver specified by the cutter body manufacturer to seat the insert screw properly — do not overtighten by hand estimate alone; follow the cutter body documentation for fastener procedure. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a fresh insert. Machining operations involving superalloys and titanium require appropriate coolant flow rates and speeds per the tooling manufacturer guidelines.
