The KENNAMETAL 2263177 is a right-hand indexable grooving and cutoff toolholder designed for external grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It accepts A4..06.. series inserts held in place by a clamp-style insert holding method, providing rigid support during grooving and parting cuts. The toolholder features a 1 x 1 inch square shank and delivers a minimum groove width of 0.236 inches (6 mm) with a maximum depth of cut of 0.94 inches (24 mm). It belongs to the A4SM toolholder style series and is built for precision metalcutting work performed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This toolholder is suited for external grooving, profiling, and cutoff applications on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. It is commonly installed on manual and CNC lathes in both production shops and toolrooms where consistent groove geometry and insert repeatability are required. The A4SM series is a well-established platform for high-volume turning operations. No coolant-through capability is present on this holder, making it appropriate for applications where flood or mist coolant is applied externally. The overall length of 6 inches (152.40 mm) and head height of 1.3 inches (33 mm) suit standard 1-inch toolpost and turret setups.
Compatible with A4..06.. series inserts as specified by KENNAMETAL for the A4SM toolholder platform. Verify insert seat size of 6.0 when selecting inserts for this holder.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret or toolpost is de-energized before mounting or removing the toolholder. Secure the shank firmly in the toolpost or turret to the machine manufacturer's specified clamping torque using appropriate hex keys. Confirm insert seating and clamp engagement before running the first cut.
