The KENNAMETAL 2249706 is an ER16 collet chuck designed for CNC machining centers requiring precise tool holding with through-coolant capability. It accepts ER16-series collets with a clamping range of 0.51 mm to 10 mm (0.020 to 0.394 inches), making it suitable for a wide range of small-diameter cutting tools. The chuck mounts on a CAT50 taper shank, projects 2.5 inches from the gauge line, and carries an overall length of 6.5 inches. Balanced to 12,000 RPM, it supports high-speed machining applications where runout and vibration control are critical. Through-spindle and DIN flange coolant delivery routes cutting fluid directly to the tool tip. Installation requires a wrench-type actuator for collet nut engagement.
This collet chuck is used in production and job-shop machining environments wherever CAT50-spindle vertical or horizontal machining centers are in service. Typical applications include drilling, reaming, tapping, and end milling operations with tooling up to 10 mm in diameter. The 2.5-inch projection accommodates moderate workpiece clearance requirements without excessive overhang. The through-coolant design is particularly suited to deep-hole drilling and high-speed finishing passes where flood coolant alone is insufficient.
Designed for use with ER16-series collets on CAT50-spindle machining centers. Collet nut inside diameter is 27.99 mm (1.259 inches); nose diameter is 1.100 inches.
Installation and removal should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling, following applicable machine-specific lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct ER16 collet nut wrench and spanner to achieve proper clamping without over-torquing the nut. Verify coolant port connections are clear and sealed before resuming through-coolant operation.
