The KENNAMETAL 2244990 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the WNMG432MS designation, part of the KENLOC series. It features an 80-degree trigon (W) insert shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake angle of 13 degrees. The inscribed circle measures 0.5000 inches, the corner radius is 0.0313 inches (1/32 inch), and the insert length is 0.6840 inches (8.69 mm). With six cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, this insert is designed for efficient material removal in turning, facing, and boring operations. The K313 grade and MS chip breaker geometry are suited for light-to-medium cutting in non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users.
This insert is intended for use in turning centers, CNC lathes, and manual lathes where precision cutting of non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium is required. The KENLOC insert-holding method uses a clamp and pin system, making it compatible with toolholders designed for WNMG-style inserts in that retention style. Typical applications include external turning, facing passes, and boring where a neutral-hand, trigon-geometry insert is specified. The bright, uncoated finish makes the K313 grade particularly effective in cuts where coating adhesion to workpiece material could be a concern, such as with aluminum alloys or titanium.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting WNMG-style inserts with a clamp-and-pin holding method. Compatible with turning, facing, and boring operations on non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. Intended for toolholder bores with a 0.2031-inch insert hole diameter. Verify toolholder specification against WNMG432 insert geometry before installation.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Before seating the insert, power down and lock out the machine per your facility lockout/tagout procedure. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before engaging the clamp and pin. Inspect the insert pocket for wear or debris that could prevent proper seating and affect edge runout. Follow ANSI B11 machine tool safety guidelines and the toolholder manufacturer torque recommendations for the clamping screw.
