The KENNAMETAL 2244947 is a VNMG3305MS turning insert in the KC5025 grade, designed for external and internal turning operations in CNC and manual lathe applications. Manufactured from solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert provides moderate wear resistance and toughness across a range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a honed cutting edge. The 0.0079-inch corner radius and negative rake angle make it well suited for medium machining and roughing passes. It is held using either a clamp or pin method and offers four usable cutting edges per insert, maximizing value per unit in production environments.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. The MS chip breaker geometry targets stainless steel and superalloys as primary workpiece materials, with additional suitability for steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous materials. The KC5025 grade is engineered for moderate wear resistance and toughness, making it a practical choice for interrupted cuts and variable feed conditions common in job-shop and production machining. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers specifying inserts for stainless steel and titanium alloy components will find this insert aligned to those application demands. The KENLOC series toolholding system provides secure, repeatable clamping with minimal setup time.
Designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders that accept VNMG-style inserts with a 0.15-inch hole diameter and clamp or pin holding. Suitable for multi-use applications including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous materials, and superalloys and titanium.
Insert replacement should be performed with the machine at a full stop and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torque wrench and seating tool recommended for the KENLOC clamping system to avoid insert cracking or improper seating. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping pin for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Verify cutting edge orientation and chip breaker position before resuming cutting operations.
