The KENNAMETAL 2244918 is a WNMG432MS turning insert in the KC5010 grade, designed for indexable toolholders in the KENLOC series. The insert is manufactured from solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that delivers high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. It features an 80-degree trigon (W) shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. With six available cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, this insert is suited for roughing and medium machining operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers and end users.
The 2244918 is intended for turning, facing, and boring applications on CNC lathes and turning centers handling steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous (N), and superalloys and titanium (S) workpieces. Its chip breaker geometry (MS) targets medium to roughing cuts with a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). The insert holds ANSI code WNMG432 and ISO code WNMG080402, making it compatible with standard WNMG-style toolholders. It is held in place by clamp or pin methods and is suitable for both high-production and job-shop turning environments.
Designed to seat in WNMG-style indexable toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards, including KENLOC series holders that accept a WNMG432 (ANSI) or WNMG080402 (ISO) insert. Clamp and pin holding methods are supported.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always bring the machine spindle to a full stop and engage the e-stop or lockout before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified insert screw or clamp hardware when seating the insert in the pocket. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or wear before seating a new insert edge to ensure proper seating and runout.
