The KENNAMETAL 2244917 is a WNMG431MS indexable turning insert in the KC5510 grade, manufactured from solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. It features an 80-degree trigon (W) shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64 inch corner radius. The insert carries a negative rake angle of 13 degrees and a negative side clearance, providing high wear resistance across a range of cutting conditions. With 6 cutting edges and compatibility with both clamp and pin holding methods, this insert is used in CNC turning centers and manual lathes by machinists and toolroom professionals targeting steel, stainless steel, and superalloy workpieces.
This insert is suited for roughing and medium machining operations including turning, facing, and boring. The MS chip breaker geometry manages chip control effectively in interrupted and continuous cuts on steel and stainless steel. The KC5510 grade is characterized by high to moderate wear resistance combined with toughness, making it appropriate for steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and non-ferrous (N) and superalloy (S) material groups. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). It is part of KENNAMETAL's KENLOC series and conforms to both ANSI (WNMG431) and ISO (WNMG080404) standards.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard indexable insert for KENLOC series toolholders accepting WNMG431 (ANSI) or WNMG080404 (ISO) insert geometry with clamp or pin retention. Suitable for multi-use application in turning, facing, and boring operations.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before indexing or replacing the insert. Seat the insert firmly against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamp or pin to avoid movement under cutting load. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque specifications for the clamping screw.
