The KENNAMETAL 2244916 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WNMG4305MS geometry, coated with TiAlN via a PVD process and graded KC5010. It carries an 80-degree trigon (W-shape) with a negative rake angle and a neutral hand orientation. The insert measures 8.69 mm in length with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 0.1875 inch thickness, and a corner radius of approximately 0.008 inches. The MS chip breaker is engineered for roughing and medium machining operations. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators install this insert in KENLOC-style toolholders for precision metal removal across a range of workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S. The KC5010 grade delivers high to moderate wear resistance combined with adequate toughness, making it effective across finish and roughing passes where consistent tool life is required. The six available cutting edges extend usable life per insert, reducing per-edge tooling cost on production runs. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm. The insert conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, with ANSI code WNMG4305 and ISO code WNMG080402.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting WNMG-style inserts secured by clamp or pin holding methods. Conforms to ANSI insert code WNMG4305 and ISO insert code WNMG080402 for cross-reference purposes.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Before seating or indexing the insert, power down the machine and lock out the spindle per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut for the insert geometry, and verify clamp or pin torque against the toolholder manufacturer specifications rather than applying estimated values.
