The KENNAMETAL 2244912 is a solid carbide turning insert with a VNMG332MS geometry and KC5010 grade designation, designed for high-performance metal cutting in CNC turning centers and manual lathes. Coated via PVD with TiAlN for improved wear resistance and thermal stability, this insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation. It carries a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and a honed cutting edge style. The MS chip breaker geometry targets roughing to medium machining operations. Licensed HVAC techs and plumbers do not typically install this product — it is used by machinists and CNC operators in metalworking environments.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces. The KC5010 grade delivers high to moderate wear resistance and toughness across those material groups, making it a versatile choice for production environments where multiple workpiece materials run on the same tooling setup. The KENLOC series holding method uses a clamp and pin system. It conforms to both ANSI (VNMG332) and ISO (VNMG160408) insert standards, ensuring broad compatibility with standard toolholders in those systems.

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure — do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and shim seat for debris or damage before loading a new insert to ensure proper seating and repeatable tool-tip position.
