The KENNAMETAL 2244911 is a VNMG-style carbide turning insert designed for precision metal turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, this insert carries the KC5010 manufacturer grade and is engineered for roughing and medium machining applications. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a positive rake angle of 13 degrees. The inscribed circle measures 0.375 inches, the insert length is 0.6539 inches (16.61 mm), and the insert thickness is 0.1875 inches. The KENLOC series designation indicates use with compatible KENLOC toolholders that employ clamp and pin holding methods.
This insert is suited for turning operations on superalloys and stainless steel as the primary and secondary workpiece material codes indicate S and M classifications respectively. The MS chip breaker geometry targets roughing to medium material removal rates, making it a practical choice for production shops running interrupted or continuous cuts on difficult-to-machine alloys. The maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). Licensed machinists and CNC operators in aerospace, energy, and general metalworking environments are the typical end users.
Designed for use in KENNAMETAL KENLOC series toolholders that accept VNMG 330.5 inserts with clamp and pin retention. Optimized for superalloys (S) and stainless steels (M) per primary and secondary workpiece material classifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw driver specified for the KENLOC toolholder to seat the insert firmly against the pocket locating surfaces. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert to avoid improper seating or premature edge failure.
