The KENNAMETAL 2238543 is a replaceable-tip drill body designed for precision hole-making in metal cutting applications. It accepts KSEM0797 insert tips at an Insert Seat Size 3, allowing fast tip changes without removing the body from the spindle. The drill covers a diameter range of 20.24 to 20.74 mm (0.7969 to 0.8165 inches) and reaches a maximum drill depth of 60.72 mm (2.39 inches), operating at a 3xD depth-to-diameter ratio. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 25.4 mm in diameter and 76.20 mm in length, providing a secure, concentric grip in standard chuck or collet toolholding systems. Through-coolant delivery via 3.50 mm coolant holes supports chip evacuation and heat management at the cutting zone. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this tooling in production and job-shop environments.
This drill body is suited for use in CNC machining centers and turning centers where consistent, repeatable bore diameters are required. The KSEM series platform is built around modular replaceable-tip technology, making it appropriate for high-volume production runs where minimizing tool changeover time is a priority. It is commonly applied in ferrous and non-ferrous metal workpieces where controlled hole geometry and surface finish are critical. The overall length of 6.38 inches and a flute length of 3.22 inches accommodate standard toolholder setups on vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Designed for use with KSEM0797 replaceable insert tips at Insert Seat Size 3 within the KENNAMETAL KSEM series modular drill platform.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or changing the drill body or insert tip. Verify that the straight-cylindrical shank is fully seated and clamped to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque range before operation. Confirm through-coolant lines are clear and delivering adequate flow before beginning the drilling cycle.
