The KENNAMETAL 2238530 is a replaceable-tip drill body from the KSEM series, designed for precision hole-making in metal cutting applications. It accepts KSEM0634 insert tips at a size 1 insert seat, allowing worn cutting edges to be swapped out without replacing the entire tool body. The drill covers a diameter range of 16.1 to 16.6 mm (0.6339 to 0.6535 inches) with a maximum drilling depth of 48.31 mm (1.90 inches), operating at a 3xD depth-to-diameter ratio. A straight-cylindrical shank measuring 19.05 mm in diameter seats directly into compatible tool holders. Through-coolant delivery via a 3.50 mm coolant hole supports chip evacuation and heat management at the cutting zone.
This drill body is suited for production machining environments where hole diameter consistency and tool longevity are priorities. Typical applications include drilling steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous workpiece materials on CNC machining centers and turning centers equipped with live tooling. The 3xD depth ratio makes it appropriate for moderate-depth through-holes and blind holes in structural components, flanges, and housings. The overall length of 4.75 inches (120.65 mm) and a shank length of 50.80 mm allow straightforward setup in standard toolholders without extended-reach adapters in most configurations.
Designed for use with KSEM0634 series replaceable insert tips at insert seat size 1. Part of the KENNAMETAL KSEM modular drill platform. Confirm toolholder bore and clamping style match the 19.05 mm straight-cylindrical shank before installation.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with rotating cutting tool assemblies. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or turret is in a safe position before loading or unloading the drill body. Verify insert tip seating and locking screw torque per the KENNAMETAL KSEM assembly documentation supplied with the tooling system. Confirm coolant-through passages in the toolholder and spindle are clear and aligned before initiating a cutting cycle.
