The KENNAMETAL 2229661 is a DNMG431MS solid carbide turning insert with a KC5010 PVD TiAlN coating, designed for high-wear-resistance machining across a range of workpiece materials. It features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a negative rake and side clearance geometry. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, insert length is 15.5 mm (approximately 1.22 inches), and the corner radius is 1/64 inches (0.0156 inches). Suitable for roughing and medium machining operations, this insert is part of the KENLOC series and is manufactured to both ANSI and ISO standards. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications on CNC lathes and machining centers. It is rated for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S. The KC5010 grade provides high to moderate wear resistance combined with toughness across these material groups. It is a multi-use insert appropriate for both roughing and medium-duty passes, with a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches).
Designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders accepting DNMG-style inserts with a negative-style seat. Compatible with ANSI code DNMG431 and ISO code DNMG150404 toolholder pockets. Clamp and pin holding methods are supported.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians on lathes or turning centers. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches) per the application parameters.
