The KENNAMETAL 2229655 is a CNMG431MS KC5025 grade solid carbide turning insert designed for external and internal material removal on CNC and conventional lathes. Coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, this insert carries Kennametal KC5025 grade characteristics that balance wear resistance and toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides a strong cutting edge geometry suited for roughing and medium machining operations. With four usable cutting edges and a neutral hand, it fits a wide range of CNMG-compatible toolholders in the KENLOC series. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in production turning, facing, and boring applications.
This insert is primarily intended for stainless steel and superalloys and titanium, with secondary suitability for steel, cast iron, and aluminum and non-ferrous materials. The MS chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining passes, making it appropriate for moderate to heavy stock removal in both job-shop and production environments. The insert is held by clamp or pin methods, consistent with standard CNMG toolholder systems. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, with ANSI insert code CNMG431 and ISO insert code CNMG120404.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders within the Kennametal KENLOC series. Compatible with turning, facing, and boring applications. Accepts clamp or pin insert-holding methods. Conforms to ANSI insert code CNMG431 and ISO insert code CNMG120404.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before clamping. Do not exceed the recommended maximum depth of cut of 0.049 inches (1.25 mm) as specified for this insert geometry.
