The KENNAMETAL 2229550 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNGG432FS geometry, graded KC5010 and coated with TiAlN via a PVD process. It carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, neutral hand orientation, and a negative rake and side clearance configuration. The insert measures 12.90 mm (0.5077 inches) in length with a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch (0.0313-inch) corner radius. Insert thickness is 3/16 inch (0.1875 inches). The FS chip breaker is designed for finishing operations, and the KC5010 grade targets high to moderate wear resistance across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece families. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC turning specialists in production and job-shop environments.
The 2229550 insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and cast iron workpieces. The KENLOC series design uses a clamp-and-pin holding method, providing secure seating in compatible toolholders. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), making it appropriate for light finishing passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the priority. It conforms to ANSI insert code CNGG432 and ISO insert code CNGG120408, and carries ANSI and ISO standards compliance. This insert offers four usable cutting edges per unit.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders that accept CNGG432 geometry inserts with a clamp-and-pin holding method, conforming to ANSI and ISO insert standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians following shop lockout and spindle-stop procedures before any insert change. Seat the insert firmly against the pocket locating surfaces and verify the clamp and pin are fully engaged before resuming cutting. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for finishing applications. Inspect the pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a fresh cutting edge.
