The KENNAMETAL 2229543 is a solid carbide milling insert in the OFKT series, designed for high-performance face and shoulder milling in demanding machining environments. Carrying the KC522M manufacturer grade and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers thermal resistance and wear life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The octagon insert shape provides 8 cutting edges per insert, maximizing tool economy. At 0.2362 inches thick with a 3/64-inch corner radius, it is built for consistent chip formation and stable cutting geometry in CNC milling applications. Installation requires a screw-holding method compatible with KSOM-series cutter bodies.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium — material application codes P, M, K, and S. The GB chip breaker geometry and positive rake angle of 5 degrees promote efficient chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces, making this insert appropriate for both roughing and semi-finishing passes. It fits KSOM-series cutter bodies and is specified under ANSI code OFKT64AFEN6GB and ISO code OFKT07L6AFENGB. Typical users include CNC machinists and tooling specialists in production and job-shop environments working with the material groups listed above.
Designed for use with KSOM-series cutter bodies. Specified under ANSI code OFKT64AFEN6GB and ISO code OFKT07L6AFENGB. Confirmed material application for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium (P, M, K, S).
This insert is installed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician using the screw-holding method; ensure the cutter body and screw threads are clean and undamaged before seating the insert. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before any insert change. Verify insert seating and torque the clamping screw to the cutter body manufacturer specification — do not estimate. Inspect the insert pocket for wear or debris that could affect seating plane accuracy and cutting geometry.
