The KENNAMETAL 2227338 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in metalworking applications. Built from solid carbide and coated with TiAlN, this bit operates at higher cutting speeds and temperatures than uncoated tooling. The 10.30 mm diameter cutting edge is ground to a 140-degree point angle with web thinning applied, reducing entry force and improving chip evacuation. Overall length is 102.00 mm with a 55.00 mm flute length, making it suited for shallow to moderate-depth holes in production environments. It is installed and operated by machinists and CNC tooling professionals.
This drill bit is intended for use in cast iron and steel workpieces, including both production machining and job-shop operations. The Series B966A Dynapoint High Performance grade is built for demanding cuts where tool life and dimensional accuracy are priorities. The maximum recommended drilling depth is 40.00 mm. The straight cylindrical shank measures 12.00 mm in diameter and 45.00 mm in length, compatible with standard chuck and collet toolholding systems. The 2-flute regular spiral configuration promotes consistent chip flow during through-hole and blind-hole operations. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant or mist lubrication should be applied as needed per shop practice.
Designed for use in cast iron and steel workpieces as stated by the manufacturer. Fits standard straight-shank chuck and collet toolholding systems accepting a 12.00 mm shank diameter. Part of the Kennametal Series B966A Dynapoint High Performance line covering the 9.50 mm to 11.00 mm drill diameter range.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is clean and undamaged before seating the shank. Secure the shank to the full recommended grip depth in the chuck or collet before running. No coolant-through ports are present on this tool, so apply external flood coolant or mist lubrication appropriate to the workpiece material to prevent heat buildup and premature wear.
