The KENNAMETAL 2227157 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI/ISO designation SPHX1205PCSRGPB and the KCPK30 manufacturer grade. It is a double-sided, square-shaped insert with 8 cutting edges, a positive rake geometry, and a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3. The insert measures 0.2587 inches in length and 0.2170 inches thick, with an inscribed circle of 0.2165 inches. The chamfered and honed cutting edge style combined with the GP chip breaker makes this insert well-suited for general-purpose milling across a range of workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists install this insert in compatible milling cutter bodies.
This insert is designed for milling applications involving steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium, covering material grade classifications C1, C5, and C6 (ISO material codes P, M, K, and S). The SPHX series with the Fix-Perfect cutter series compatibility makes it applicable to face milling and shoulder milling operations in both production and job-shop environments. The right-hand cutting orientation and positive 5-degree rake angle support efficient chip evacuation in moderate to aggressive feed conditions. It is suited for both light and medium-depth passes, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.2130 inches.
Designed for use with the Kennametal Fix-Perfect cutter series. Insert style SPHX, size code 1205, right-hand orientation. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium per material grade codes P, M, K, and S.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the cutter body per the tool manufacturer's torque specification for the cutter series. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and runout control.
