The KENNAMETAL 2209971 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ISO designation ADKT1545PDERGB and manufacturer grade KCPK30. It features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection during high-speed milling operations. The insert is parallelogram-shaped with an 85-degree included angle, a 15-degree relief angle, and a 5-degree rake angle. The GB chip breaker geometry promotes effective chip evacuation across a range of cut depths. At 0.1772 inches thick and 0.3937 inches wide, this right-hand insert is screw-held and designed for use in indexable milling toolholders. Machinists, CNC operators, and tool room technicians typically specify this insert for production milling on difficult-to-machine materials.
This insert is rated for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, and S. The KCPK30 grade and CVD coating combination suit it for moderate to high cutting speeds where edge toughness and crater wear resistance are both required. It is sized within the ADKT series and carries insert size code 2328, fitting toolholders designed for that series. The screw-clamp holding method provides rigid seating and consistent repeatability at the cutting edge during face milling and shoulder milling applications.
Designed for use in ADKT-series indexable milling toolholders that accept screw-held parallelogram inserts with insert size code 2328. Verify toolholder pocket specifications before ordering.
Installation is typically performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Before indexing or replacing inserts, power down the spindle and confirm the machine is in a safe lockout state. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque — do not over-torque, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the pocket seating surface for chips or debris before installing a fresh insert to ensure full, flat contact at the cutting edge.
