The KENNAMETAL 2079279 is a hydraulic tool chuck designed for precision CNC machining operations. It features a CAT40 taper shank and accepts a 12 mm (0.4724 inch) tool bore, delivering the clamping force and runout accuracy required for demanding milling, drilling, and reaming applications. The hydraulic clamping mechanism reduces vibration and improves surface finish compared to standard collet chucks. With a maximum balanced speed rating of 15,000 RPM and through-coolant capability, this chuck suits high-speed machining centers running flood or high-pressure coolant systems. A licensed machinist or CNC setup technician installs and qualifies this toolholder at the machine.
This chuck is suited for use on CAT40-spindle vertical and horizontal machining centers in production and job-shop environments. The 95 mm projection and 31.60 mm nose diameter make it appropriate for applications requiring reach into deep pockets or past workholding fixtures while maintaining rigidity. Through-coolant support allows direct delivery of cutting fluid to the tool tip, extending tool life in ferrous and non-ferrous cutting operations. It is packaged individually and ordered in single-unit quantities.
Designed for use with CAT40-taper spindle machining centers accepting standard 40-taper toolholders. Compatible with 12 mm shank cutting tools including end mills, drills, and reamers.
Installation and tool qualification should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machining center before loading or unloading the toolholder from the spindle or tool changer. Use a calibrated torque wrench and the machine manufacturer's specified drawbar retention procedure when seating the CAT40 taper. Verify runout at the tool tip with a dial test indicator after installation before initiating a cutting cycle.
