The KENNAMETAL 2047472 is a carbide replaceable tip drill insert in the KSEM series, designed for high-performance drilling in steel and similar primary workpiece materials. The tip carries an ISO designation of KSEM1188HP and is manufactured from solid carbide fine-grain material with a TiAlN coating applied via a PVD process. The 140-degree drill point angle and helical, 2-flute geometry support consistent chip evacuation and stable cutting action. With a cutting diameter of 1.1874 inches (30.16 mm) and a functional length of 0.5935 inches, this insert fits KSEM-body drills that accept size-8 insert seats. A licensed machinist or tooling technician installs and services this insert.
This replaceable tip is suited for drilling operations in steel across a range of machining environments. The HP insert geometry is engineered for applications including standard through-hole drilling, inclined-exit drilling, and stacked-plate drilling scenarios. The 2-flute, 2-margin design is noted for use with coolant-through and standard setups. It is sold individually and is intended as a direct replacement tip for compatible KSEM-body drill holders already in service on CNC turning centers, machining centers, and similar production equipment.
Designed as an OEM-style replaceable tip for KSEM-series drill bodies that accept a size-8 insert seat. Specific body compatibility should be verified against KENNAMETAL KSEM series tooling documentation before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before removing or seating the insert. Use the correct torque wrench and KENNAMETAL-specified clamping hardware to secure the tip — do not over-torque or substitute non-OEM clamp screws. Inspect the insert seat for chips, debris, or wear before installing a new tip, as seat damage will affect runout and drill life.
